The meeting started at 7.35 pm, with the SAA, Sham Sunder, ACB, calling the meeting to order. After leading the attendees into reciting the Toastmaster’s Promise, he handed the control to the President, Lourdes Chandramohan, DTM, for the welcome address.
The theme of the meeting, ‘Ask a Stupid Question’, was applied to the introduction of the attendees asking a ‘stupid question’ from any one of the attendees.
The meeting was conducted by yours truly as the Toastmaster of the Evening (TME), starting with the brief history of Toastmasters International and the latest statistics on number of clubs, members and countries with Toastmasters club.
The following role players were introduced: Peter Yeoh (guest) - the Ah-Counter, Uvais - the Grammarian and Anita – the time keeper.
The grammarian introduced the word of the: “Revenant”
The 1st session, Table Topics, was handled by the Table Topics master, Aishah, CC, who spun the topics around the theme, ‘favourites’. The speakers spoke on their ‘favourites’. The following volunteered: Lucky, Peter Yeoh, Uvais and Reuben. Lourdes, DTM, was invited to do the evaluations.
During the break which followed immediately, we celebrated birthdays of September babies, Uvais & Mooi (absent).
After the break, we resumed our meeting with 2 prepared speeches. Patricia K and Ranjani, both delivered project #5 from the basic manual. In the usual Toastmasters fashion, the objectives of the assignment were read out by Lourdes (evaluator), followed by Lucky (GE) reading the notes to the evaluators.
Patricia’s speech title was, ‘My Venus, My Beagle’. Ranjani spoke on ‘Ignorance is bliss’.
President Lourdes presented a module from the Successful Club series – MENTOR.
The 3rd session was the evaluations under the GE. Evaluators, Lourdes & Sham Sunder delivered evaluations of speeches by Patricia & Ranjani, respectively. The reports from the Grammarian (Uvais), Ah-Counter (Peter Yeoh) & the time-keeper (Anita) were readout to complete the evaluation session.
In his general evaluation, the GE emphasized on punctuality among other ways to improve the standards of the meeting.
The BEST Table Topics Speaker award went to guest, PETER YEOH!
During the business session, the President identified the role player for the Area G1 Humorous Speech and Evaluation Contests on Saturday, 24th September. He also reminded members to attend the contests to support our contestants. Although the meeting ended 25 minutes late, it was a fun filled meeting with everyone having a role to play.
