Meeting - 30th July 2013

It was the last meeting for the month of July 2013 with the theme  "James Bond”, starting with the unmistakable James Bond music!

The role players had different titles befitting the theme. Bartender(ASA) Zaim called the meeting to order and the meeting started with the welcome speech by Prime Minister (President) Uma. Everyone had to introduce him/herself and tell his/her favorite James Bond actor, all in one sentence!

James Bond (TME), Reuben, took us through the entire session smoothly. It began with the induction of our new member Kim done by Lucky. We extend a warm welcome to Kim and we wish her journey with the Toastmasters to be the most fulfilling one.

After the introduction of the role players by the TME , the Table Game  (Table Topics) master, Anita, invited the volunteers to speak on the topics followed by the Table Game (Table Topics) Evaluator, Ranjani's evaluation of the speeches.

After a short break, it was time for the prepared speeches. Our first speaker was Kertar, followed by Elaine and Mooi. The speakers were very well prepared and we had something to learn from every speech. The Evaluators were Lucky, Wai Leong and Ranjit respectively.

The General Evaluator, Mala, called for the reports by the role players: M-Marian/Grammarian – Peter, Ah-Counter Device – Kent Ong and Q&Q/Timer – Lourdes. The GE presented her opinion on the meeting conducted at the end  and handed over the control to  James Bond (TME).

The 'Best Table Topics Speaker' as well as 'Best Evaluator' were awarded to Ranjit . The 'Best Speaker' of the evening was awarded to Elaine. The guests present were Kuhan, Peter, Anita, Kristal, Su Ki and Sakty.

It was a well-conducted meeting infused with wit and humour at every given opportunity by the ever-sunny members.

Awaiting the next meeting with a new theme next week.

See you all there… bye.

Installation night - 20th July, 2013

Bangsar Toastmasters saw another glorious night the when the new club officers were installed. The occasion was well-planned and executed by the members. The MC’s of the evening were Ranjit and Lourdes.

The Opening address  by our President Uma  was brief and inspiring. She took us through her journey with Toastmasters and the great work done by our previous President Ranjit and the team. The new EXCO was officially installed by the G1 Area Governor & IPP Ranjit Singh, ACG, ALB; the new EXCO vowed to continue the tradition of excellence and commitment in their work.

The new EXCO team is:
President: Uma Narayanan
VP Education: Raja Reubendran
VP Membership: Lakhmichand (Lucky)
VP PR: Zaim Mohzani
Secretary: Malavika
Treasurer: Wai Leong Soon
Seargent at Arms: Kent Ong
IP President: Ranjit Singh

Then there was a lucky draw in which one of the winners again was last time winner Chandrasri!

Our MC team had no dearth of ideas to entertain us and we were waiting excitedly for the next session to unfold. The next session was called “Complete the story” with cues (words) shown which had to be incorporated in the story. The colorful personalities of the volunteers came alive when Brad Pitt entered their storyline and in the other story, the contestant in the beauty pageant happened to be a male!!!

After this session , our VP Membership Lucky was honored with a memento as a token of our love, appreciation and admiration for all the work done by him to bring Bangsar Toastmasters to where it is today.  Hats off to you!

There was a “Ragging session” of the newly elected EXCO by our unbeatable MCs, they were truly in their element. Really, can it be an alternate career for them? …is Oscar stage waiting for them, lets wait and see how they shape their new avenue.

The last session was Charades for which the group was split into two teams. The theme of the Charades was movie names. Can you believe it if I say we have Movie experts amongst us? The right answers came in split seconds!! For a few of us like me, we wished we rather split ourselves into half than enacting !!! But the audience lapped up both extremes to have a great time for themselves .

Lucky conducted Bingo for us in his unique style which we thoroughly enjoyed. It was a very enjoyable and fun evening with great food and ambiance. This great night saw many of our members in their finery with “Best dressed" won by Ranjit and Gan.

The guests : Punitha, Kumana Wickrama, Tanya, V Chandran, Chandrasri, Caziena, Sharmini & Jay enthusiastically participated along with us.

Thanks to Ranjit and Lourdes for making it memorable for all of us with their great emceeing, wit and repartee.

Thank you !

See you all at the next meeting...
