The second meeting had a good turn out of our members and 7 guests - Sharmini (KL Adv), Jay (Sharmini's better half), Justin Ong (Prez, MII TM Club), Kelly Tan, Navina Raja, Johnson Seet and Kuhanesh Mahendra, As the theme of the meeting was ‘First Impression’, we hope we succeeded in making our first impression as the best impression on our guests, to make them visit us again. We would love to have them again!
The meeting started at the right time. After Kent Ong (SAA) called the meeting to order, we had a warm welcome speech by our President Uma who then asked us to introduce ourselves by sharing what kind of a first impression we made on others. This turned out to be a hilarious introduction with one saying “ people get scared of me ”, another member saying” I don’t care what people think of me, its THEIR mind!!” and “ People get confused looking at me not knowing whether I am Chinese, Malay or Indian” . We had the best of Stand-up comedy happening right in front of us !!!
After the brief introduction, the President handed over the reins of the meeting to the TME, Ranjani, who did a fantastic job of taking us through the entire session smoothly and at the same time keeping us well entertained. Table Topics Master Dinesh had very relevant and suitable topics for the theme of the evening. We had 2 guests Jay and Johnson who volunteered to speak, apart from members Rueben and Mala. The Table Topics Evaluator, Ranjit, gave the participants a very insightful and positive feedback to ponder and work on.
After a brief break of 10 minutes, the meeting started with prepared speeches by Toastmasters Lucky, Zaim and Kent Ong respectively. The TME introduced the General Evaluator Wai Leong who in turn introduced the Evaluator of each speaker. Lucky’s evaluator was Uma, Zaim’s was Sharmini and Kent’s was Anita. The evaluators pointed out the strengths of each speaker for example how a simple story can be linked to a major historical event , using props instantly grabs the audience’s attention and how displaying conviction & sincerity helps you in persuading people. There was a touch of wit and humour even during the evaluation, especially by Anita which made the whole room erupt in laughter.
